Maybe it’s the lighting. Maybe it’s the expert photography.
Or maybe it’s just that this Princess Leia figure is breathtaking.
Whatever the case, I’m seduced.
This figure from Hot Toys (distributed by Sideshow Collectibles) isn’t brand new, though if you want one, it’s only available via Waiting List. But it was one of those figures that when I saw it in my social media feed from an acquaintance in the collecting community, my breath literally hitched. For a moment, Carrie Fisher was alive again. No, not just Carrie herself, but Leia Organa, Star Wars princess and rebel leader.
I’m not even kidding, I saw this and whispered ‘Wow…’ under my breath.
At a time when Star Wars action figures are under so much scrutiny from the toy and collecting community, I think it’s important to stop for a moment and remember just how beautiful and how much artistry can be embedded into a ‘simple toy’ or ‘action figure’. Granted, yes, Hot Toys really are eye candy. They’re display pieces. But when you see a piece this beautiful, with so much love and respect for the source material and the woman who played this incredible character, I think it’s important to stop for a moment, revere it with a smile, remember your love for the source material, and be happy that we live in the time that we do.
Because remember– if this was the 1920s, it would be Leia Paper Dolls or something.
