Toy Wizards Review: Back to the Future DeLorean and Figure Sets by Playmobil

Big thank you to Playmobil for providing Toy Wizards a sample copy of the Back to the Future DeLorean for review. You can purchase your own, shipping July 2020, for $49.99 or the Doc and Marty figure two pack for $7.99.

I’m so excited that I was able to put together this Playmobil set because it was my very first Playmobil! As mentioned in the video review, I thought I had an airplane set as a kid, and when I got older, I realized it was actually a Fisher Price toy. Whoops. Whoopsie.

Playmobil has been crushing it with their Ghostbusters Ecto-1 character playsets, and their venture into Back to the Future is no different. At 64 pieces, even I (someone who is notoriously terrible at brick construction) was able to follow the directions and put it all together in about an hour.

Pictured above are most of the parts and pieces included in this set, and really, it was a lot of fun. All of the pieces plug in together geometrically, so unlike some of the Gundam and Transformers model kits I put snap together, there was no way to mix up any parts. There’s only one way in and one way out, which means that a kid (somewhere in the 10 year old range, I’d imagine) will be able to follow the directions, put the toy together, and have a lot of fun immersive play thereafter.

As for the price– Playmobil are premium. Yes, this costs much less than many LEGO kits, but as I mentioned in the video, the building here is really a gimmick. It wouldn’t matter either way whether or not it happened, because the toy speaks for itself. It’s beautiful! I also love how lights flash on the DeLorean and the tires move perpendicular for that time machine aesthetic. Pump those gigawatts, we’re going back in time!

I give the Playmobil Back to the Future DeLorean and figures 5/5 Wizard Stars.
