Reports from Hisstank show that Hasbro has applied for a new animated series trademark at the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

The trademark is for Micro Machines; a lineup of miniature matchbox type vehicles. Part of the excitement for this franchise among toy enthusiasts that the fact that Micro Machines, more recently, has featured vehicles and playsets from the G.I. Joe franchise.

And while G.I. is still enormous with collectors and enthusiasts, the truth is that the toys are nowhere to be found on the shelves. Could this be the first step in Hasbro revitalizing the franchise?

  • Mark: MICRO MACHINES
  • US Serial Number: 88220830
  • Owner Name: Hasbro, Inc.
  • Status Date: Dec. 11, 2018
  • Goods & Services: Entertainment services, namely, an on-going animated television series for children

Quite possibly, the trademark is to secure rights only, it is worth noting that all such trademarks under the same category were given their own series by Hasbro, in recent times. This included, Transformers: Prime, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, G.I. Joe: Renegades, Transformers: Robots In Disguise, Transformers: Cyberverse, Stretch Armstrong and the upcoming Micronauts.

However, sources show that this is the second time Hasbro is applying for a Micro Machines Animated Series Trademark within 4 years. If things work out, the series may very well be produced by Hasbro’s in-house animation studio Boulder Media Limited.

Only time will tell of Hasbro’s intentions with the Micro Machines cartoon. But I’m willing to bet these vehicles can give Thomas and Friends a run for their money.
