91-year-old Roger Sweet, the original creator of “HE-MAN,” is suffering from dementia and has moved into a memory care facility. According to his wife, Marlene Sweet, the care facility is not covered by Medicare, and is costing the elderly couple $10,000 each month. This amount is more than the Sweets’ monthly income.
Sweet worked at Mattel for 15 years, during which he both designed and named the original HE-MAN character. He and Marlene have been married for nearly 40 years. At their wedding they even had the HE-MAN cake toppers seen below.
It is heart-wrenching for Marlene to watch her husband’s condition take him away from the world, especially as the HE-MAN movie is coming out soon.
“He is now at our chosen care facility and is settling in,” Marlene wrote on GoFundMe. “He has only been there a few days and his mental decline is sadly continuing. It is devastating to see this happening.”
She started a GoFundMe hoping fans of the iconic character can help cover the cost of Roger’s care. Here is the fundraiser link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-roger-sweet-creator-of-heman
