The Mighty Orbots Kickstarter Final Day

From an unmade toy on the floor in Mattel to a brand new fully functional toy for us adult collectors with a hole in our hearts unfilled till now. Join up and make this dream come true.

If you were a kid in 1984, those two words meant one thing: the smoothest animation and the coolest robot designs on Saturday morning television. But for fans of Mighty Orbots, there has always been a void. While other robot franchises filled the toy aisles, the Mighty Orbots toys famously vanished before they could reach the shelves—victims of a legendary legal battle that left the original Mattel prototypes locked away in history.

Until now.

For 40 years, collectors have whispered about “the one that got away.” Machine Dream Toys is proud to announce that after four decades, we are officially closing that gap. We have secured the trademark and are bringing the legendary 1984 prototype to life. This is the official deluxe combining Mighty Orbots figure – built to appeal to the vintage die-cast Robot Collector, but utilizing modern manufacturing standards for the adult collector.

Whether you’re just a fan of Mighty Orbots, or a passionate collector of vintage die-cast Chogokin – Let’s save the galaxy and finally complete your 80s collection.

The Return of the Legend

This is not a stylized re-interpretation. This is a faithful realization of the toy we were promised four decades ago, updated with premium materials and finishes including Die Cast and Plastic Parts.

When combined, the Mighty Orbots stand at an impressive 12 inches tall. But the magic lies in the engineering. Just like the show, five individual robots transform and link together to form the galaxy’s defender.

Meet the Team

This Deluxe Set features all five core Orbots, each fully transformable from individual robot mode to its combined component.

Mighty Orbots (Combined 12-Inch Form)

When assembled, the Mighty Orbots is a gorgeous representation of his cartoon form and will bring every collector directly back to his childhood with his color, scale and classic transformation:

Colossal Scale: Stands at an imposing 12 inches tall perfectly designed to scale with Vintage 80’s GoDaikin and Matchbox die-cast robots.

Flight Pose Head: Includes a highly articulated neck joint that allows the head to look straight up, perfect for recreating dynamic flight and battle poses.

Ratchet System: Features articulated, ratcheted arms for sturdy posing and includes the classic 80s feature: Firing Fists!

Tor (The Torso)

The muscle. Strong, dependable, a bit slow-witted but with a big heart. The powerhouse and core of the team, Tor is essential to the combination:

Combination Core: Transforms into the main torso, including the faceplate and head of the Mighty Orbot.

Beam Car Docking Bay: Features the primary docking bay in the chestdesigned specifically for the Beam Car.

Internal Storage: The chest bay is engineered for transformation, providing secure internal storage for the individual arms and fists during combination.

Features: Articulated arms with firing fists in individual mode.

Bo and Boo (The Arms)

The perfect synergy in action. The distinct twins forming the combined arms, bringing agility and weaponry:

Full Articulation: Features fully rotating heads, waist bend and articulated arms with classic firing fists.

Transformation: Includes folding head, legs, and arms designed for a compact and clean transformation into the combined arm components.

Bort (Left Leg)

The shape-shifter. Can transform parts of his body into tools and weapons. Serious and practical:

Expandable Limbs: Includes expandable arms and legs to achieve the proper scale and clearance during transformation.

Integrated Tools: Features articulated arms with four unique fold-out tools in robot mode.

Transformation: Tools fold into arm compartments then arms store cleanly inside body compartments during combination.

Special Storage & Attachments: Includes separate Drill and Buzz Sawattachments for his waist, with a secret Tool Storage compartment located in the back of the feet to cleanly keep the accessories

Crunch (Right Leg)

The comic relief heavy-lifter. Gluttonous, goofy, and fiercely loyal, with a knack for accidental heroics:

Features: Includes articulated arms and head, and classic firing fists.

Transformation: Arms store neatly into a side compartment during transformation.

Bonus Accessories

We aren’t just giving you the robot; we are giving you the complete ecosystem. No Mighty Orbots display is complete without a pilot and their chaotic assistant.

The Beam Car: A special vehicle piloted by Rob Simmons and acts as a “command center” when linked up within Mighty Orbots’ core body. Faithfully recreated, the car features show-accurate detailing and docks perfectly inside the chest of the combined Mighty Orbot.

Ohno: The team wouldn’t be complete without their vocal, high-strung robot assistant. Ohno is included as a non-articulated, in-scale figure to display alongside the team.

The Shadow of UMBRA: Introducing Tobor

Every hero needs a nemesis. For the Mighty Orbots, that villain was the colossal robotic impostor, Tobor.

In the classic episode “The Devil’s Asteroid,” Tobor was a massive, terrifying counterpart designed by the insidious organization UMBRA to sow chaos and destroy the Orbots.

For the true collector seeking the ultimate display, we are offering Tobor as a colossal companion figure. Tobor allows you to recreate the epic confrontations that defined the series. He is the missing piece required to display the greatest hero and villain pairing of the 1980s.

Why Back This Project?

This is Your One and Only Opportunity.

The original prototype was never produced. It became a myth. Now, Machine Dream Toys has prepared the engineering to finally realize this legend.

We are not guaranteed a second chance. If this initial Kickstarter campaign does not successfully meet its funding goal, this project will not move forward, and the opportunity to produce the 12-inch combining Mighty Orbots will be lost for good.

If you want this figure, you must back it now. This is the definitive moment to secure your piece of history.

This is a premium product designed specifically for the adult collector market. We are using:

Die-cast metal parts for stability and that vintage “heavy” feel.

High-gloss ABS plastic to match the 1984 aesthetic.

Ratchet joints in the combined mode to ensure the 12-inch figure can hold dynamic poses without sagging.

Retro-style Packaging: The box art pays homage to the classic 80s design language that defined an era.

Last chance to save the galaxy.

Back the Mighty Orbots today.

The Journey to This Point: Development Complete

The most common fear in crowdfunding is an unproven concept. We are eliminating that fear. The complexity of a 5-robot combining figure requires massive upfront work, and we are proud to show you that the most difficult part of the journey, the engineering, is already finished.

This is how Machine Dream Toys moved the Mighty Orbots from a myth to a fully realized, production-ready collectible:

December 2024 – Initial CAD Engineering Started: We began translating the original 1984 prototype schematics into modern, high-tolerance CAD files, focusing on the complex ratchet and joint systems.

January 2025 – Finalized 3D Renders: Successfully developed and approved all photorealistic 3D renders, confirming the aesthetic fidelity to the original design and validating the internal mechanics.

May 2025 – Fully Functioning Prototype Printed: We received and rigorously tested the first fully 3D-printed prototype. This confirmed the transformation sequence is smooth, all five robots combine correctly, and the 12-inch figure can hold dynamic poses.

SDCC 2025 – First Hands-On: The fully functional unpainted prototype was revealed during San Diego Comic-Con, the first time the team was able to see and touch the complexity and scale of the figure. It was shown to a few influencers behind the scenes for crucial feedback.

October 2025 – Final Fully Functional Painted Prototype : The fully functional prototype came just a few months later, allowing the team to make sure the Mighty Orbots had detailed paint applications to be as show-accurate as possible while maintaining the charm and simplicity of the vintage 80’s toy lines.
