Just two weeks ago, the Nacelle Company was happily telling American collectors that their long-awaited first wave of Star Trek action figures were on track to arrive in the US for distribution before the holidays — but now they are sharing some disappointing news for those eagerly awaiting a delivery.
In a video shared to the company’s social media accounts, Nacelle president and CEO Brian Volk-Weiss detailed an unfortunate quality issue that has impacted the imported Wave 1 Star Trek figures, and the impact this will have on fans’ preorder deliveries.
Unfortunately, we started shipping Star Trek Wave 1 [figures] on Wednesday, and even though we did our inspections and we looked at about ten percent of the entire shipment, and everything looked great, it turns out — and we’re still trying to find out why — we have been told by the shipping company that one of the containers got too hot, and that made some of the plastic expand.
We definitely have some sort of quality control issue, and I would rather be late and send you bad news than have a Q.C. issue. We are going to stop shipping as of today, fix the Q.C. issue — which we believe will take at the most 30 days, hopefully it will take 14 days — and then resume shipping.
I know this isn’t the news you wanted to hear — it’s certainly not the news I wanted to give you! — but it’s the truth, and if there’s anything I’ve learned from collecting toys [and buying products] myself, you want the company you’re giving your money to to be honest. So I’m being honest with you. I’ve never had to make a video like this before, so I want to look you all in the eyes, apologize, and say I’m sorry this has happened… and we are fixing it.
So there will be a delay. For anybody who’s received figures, we will obviously replace what you were sent, and put in some goodies as well. Again, my apologies, but I just wanted to look you in the eye and tell you there’s a problem — and we are fixing that problem.
Thank you.
While certainly a disappointing update for those who were hoping to have the Wave 1 figures wrapped and ready under their Christmas trees this week, it is rather refreshing for a company to be so open about a challenging issue like this (especially in the world of Star Trek licensed products).
Volk-Weiss also shared last week — in the wake of licensees Hero Within and Retrospect Studios dropping their Trek participation due to massively increased fees from Paramount Global Licensing — that the Nacelle Company’s licensing agreement “has not changed” and that anything the company has announced as a pending product (and some unannounced items!) are all ” still on the schedule [for when] we told you it would be happening.”
