It seems like everyone has been playing “Who’s on First?” this weekend.
“Who?” G.I. Joe Cobra Island Wave figures. What? When you ask about them, and finally “I don’t know” when you ask at which point they will have them in stock. Target stores this weekend has been nothing short of comedy.
Some fans have found the elusive Cobra Island figures “early” on the Hasbro release date of August 1st. However, fans are hearing more and more reports of August 14th, which is apparently the official release date from Target. This contradicts Target themselves saying the release date was July 26th in stores and the 14th online in a customer service post. Sounds familiar? Yeah, this is the same crap fans went through during the Power Rangers Lightning Collection launch around Easter 2019.
Hasbro stated that the G.I. Joe Cobra Island street date was August 1st in stores and back online the 14th. In stores, we get the August 14th is coming up on the computer. Showing the Hasbro post does nothing to sway some managers to ring them out or release held captives in the back room. No one can get anything straight despite Hasbro knowing they said the 1st, where Targets said the 14th for over a week before this weekend. How can two large companies not have logistics set across the board on something like this yet again after the NTWK catastrophe? You would think they would put someone in charge to make sure this kinda stuff doesn’t happen again.
Update they did not, not at all by the looks of it. We have a very rabid fanbase looking for products, and everywhere you turn it is a different story. For my Targets (and I checked all three this weekend) they have the pegs ready but the toys are not in stock and due on the 14th as stated. Other stores got them out on the shelves and some people are even finding Wave Two G.I. Joes on the shelves already: Gung-Ho, Red Ninja, and Cobra Commander have appeared. And those toys have a street date of November 1st! So, no matter what the official street date is, the figures are out there and everyone is hunting. So far nothing on the new G.I. Joe line has gone as planned. What does it show from all of this? It proves that G.I. Joe is not a low-end brand for Hasbro to ignore anymore. It is the top requested Hasbro toy right now. Let’s just hope they are paying attention this time around. We have both Cobra Island Wave and Wave 2 links below for easy hunting.
