Sentinal Shows Off Gorgeous Magic Knight Rayearth RIOBOT Rayearth Figure

My Oldtaku heart is singing right now and I legitimately choked on my coffee after seeing this beautiful, beautiful mecha. Magic Knight Rayearth was such a delightful 90s anime series, one of those shows that I would see artwork of again and again and knew I needed to see it. I got my hands on a few rough fansubbed VHS tapes, but I want to say those cut out somewhere around the 6th episode. The manga took its sweet time getting out here, too. Eventually, the show, along with other 90s fantasy mecha anime, was brought over stateside (that dub takes the cake for one of the worst I’ve ever seen, right Fuu-ster?).

There really was something special about 90s fantasy anime and its inclusion of mecha. It made my robot loving heart sing, because let’s be honest– as incredible as many sci-fi military mecha anime can be, some of the pacing is slow! I just want to see the robot fight and blow things up. For my personal sensibilities, that’s why I attached harder to fantasy anime with robots because I love the story telling aspects. Call them more relationship/romantic/friendship driven, I don’t care. I dug Rayearth, Escaflowne, Lodoss War, and all those other series so freakin’ much. And this Rayearth figure by Sentinal is just breathtaking. Give me red and gold and seriously, I’m there.

Sentinal’s Magic Knight Rayearth RIOBOT Rayearth figure costs $292, ships January 2021, and is available for preorder today.
