NECA Reveals Defenders of the Earth Action Figures at Toy Fair 2020

Defenders of the Earth is an animated television series produced in 1985, featuring characters from three comic strips distributed by King Features Syndicate—Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, and Mandrake’s assistant Lothar—opposing Ming the Merciless in the year 2015. Supporting characters include their children Rick Gordon (son of Flash), L.J. (son of Lothar), Kshin (adopted son of Mandrake), and Jedda Walker (daughter of the Phantom). The show lasted for 65 episodes; there was also a short-lived comic book series published by Star Comics (an imprint of Marvel Comics).

Thank you Wikipedia for providing a summary much more concise than I could muster up.

At Toy Fair 2020, among all of NECA Toys’ incredible reveals, the legendary Defenders of the Earth were on display alongside the jumbo TMNT Raphael, Toony Terrors, Toony Classics, Predator figures, JAWS figures, They Live, Scream’s Masked Killer and MORE!

As of this writing, there is no information about the Defenders of the Earth figures on NECA’s website, Instagram, or Facebook. Oddly enough too, these figures were not in any official Toy Fair Reveals write ups or announcements that this toy journalist was able to find. It seems they were simply on display at the booth and the noise/buzz about them was generated by the fans themselves.

This wave of five characters look fantastic. I really like the plastic/rubberized clothing on the characters; readers may know that I’m not the biggest fan of cloth clothing on collectibles. Kids’ toys, great, but not for my collectibles (unless it’s a vintage kids’ toy that I’ve deemed collectible, but we’re going into subjective reality territory at that point).

Toy Wizards will provide more on this awesome comic book/cartoon/lost relic toy line as we learn more and will be sure to post preorder information ASAP!
