Sega Genesis Mini is Coming September 2019 (And Sega Is Revealing the Game List Slowly)

A few days ago at Sega Fes 2019, the ‘defunct in the hardware and home console’ former mega-giant announced that they were releasing a mini plug and play console of their own; the Sega Genesis Mini.

Sega bowed out of the home console hardware market following the DreamCast system and has been licensing their games for other console use ever since. Sega’s games have made appearances on XBox, Playstation, and Nintendo ever since.

Remember when we thought the Earth would fall into a black hole before we ever saw Mario and Sonic in a game together?

But now, come September 19th, 2019, Sega will (sort of) re-enter the home console market with their mini machine. In a strategic move, Sega is revealing the 40 games included on the system in small batches of ten. The machine will retail $80, though we will see where that goes- Playstation released their PS1 mini at $100 and it did not stay at that price. It retails for $60 now.

The first games revealed are as follows:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Comix Zone
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Toe Jam & Earl
  • Altered Beast

So far, it looks pretty good. Unlike Playstation and the N64 (which we are still awaiting a mini-announcement for) Sega had plenty of good IPs that belonged to them on their own. Therefore, fan favorites have a very high chance of coming out on the Genesis-mini.

Including, I hope, the best Sega Game in the universe.

You guessed it.
