Just the other day, Toy Wiazrds reported about Toynami’s WonderCon 2019 exclusive: A 1/100 scale VF-1S transformable Valkyrie from the smash hit classic Macross anime. The box art is beautifully designed by artist Jay Sullivan, and hits all the nails needed to make the packaging look truly vintage 80s. The MSRP is $65, and only 1,000 pieces are being made. This is a nostalgic nudge to the iconic packaging of Takatoku. This was a prolific toy company in the 70s and 80s. They made many toys from Macross and Orguss that are still fan favorites among collectors in some cases $1000s of dollars a piece for items with the perfect box. What was most well-known about the Takatoku boxes was the texture. Instead of a slick box we most know today, they have a slight rough-feel kind of like stingray skin on a samurai sword. You know when handling them they are the real thing.
As of last night, Toynami revealed additional images for this amazing Macross VF-1S Valkyrie, as seen below.
Again, this item is a WonderCon exclusive. You will be able to purchase it from Toynami’s booth, and then take it over to Jay Sullivan’s table to have it signed. According to WonderCon, if there are any left after the show, they will be sold after the fact.
