Toy Wizards Review: Spider-Man Marvel Legends Retro Collection Green Goblin

Spider-Man has always been my dude.

When it comes to Marvel superheroes or hell, superheroes in general, everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood web slinger resonated with me the most growing up, starting with checking out the classically campy Spider-Man cartoon of the 60s to collecting as many of the Amazing and Spectacular Spider-Man comics as I could get my hands on, to diving head long into the Spider-Man animated series on Fox Kids in the 90s. So, when the news hit that Hasbro was releasing a wave of retro action figures, I lit up like J. Jonah Jameson demanding pictures of Spider-Man.

Mysterio is my all-time favorite Spidey villain, and while I’m sure we’ll see him in a future wave, Green Goblin is a close second when it comes to my villain fandom.

There’s so much to love when it comes to these figures. From the super fun art work on the card back to the overall appearance of the figure hearkening back to those nostalgic days of the 80s and 90s when I first fell in deep with my Spider-Man love. Hasbro nails it with the paint application on Green Goblin with absolutely gorgeous color throughout the costume alongside a wonderfully devilish head sculpt with both the swappable Norman Osborn alternate head as well as the masked Goblin head.

The figure comes with your standard points of articulation throughout. Over ninety degree bend at the knees, wrist rotation, bend at the elbows, full arm rotation, an ab crunch as well as rotation at the shin allowing you to turn his feet. No ankle tilt is present on the figure, but there was really no need for it. The figure comes with a full 360 degree rotation of the head along with a full upward and downward movement.

Swapping the interchangeable heads is easy enough as they pop on and off of the ball joint on the neck. The Green Goblin head is a little easier to reapply than the Norman Osborn head which took some wiggling and maneuvering to get it into place, but this is only a minor issue and doesn’t detract from the figure as a whole.

There’s also lots of great molded detail on the toy throughout the arms and legs right down to his sculpted boots and gloves to the belt around the figures waist as well as his satchel which can easily be removed. In addition we also get one of his classic pumpkin bombs and his trusty glider as accessories.

All in all, Hasbro’s retro Green Goblin is a great and fun figure for Spider-Man fans and collectors alike, and is in stock for $22.99 at bigbadtoystore.com right now. You can also find him at your local Walmart just as I did, and I’ll be heading back to pick up Electro and Spidey in the not too distant future.

I give Hasbro’s Spider-Man Marvel Legends Retro Collection Green Goblin 4.5/5 pumpkin bombs.
