Toy Wizards Review: NECA Hellraiser Ultimate Pinhead

“The box, you opened it, we came”.

We’ve all heard of Christmas in July, well for Toy Wizards I’m here to give you a taste of Halloween in July, because if you’re like me everyday is Halloween.

I’ve always been a huge horror fan. Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers are at the top of the horror villain food chain. While Pinhead may be a tier below, he’s just as iconic thanks to Doug Bradley fully immersing himself in the character. A word of warning though, if you’re going to watch the Hellraiser films, stop after Hellbound: Hellraiser 2. Trust me for as incredible an actor as Doug Bradley is, anything after the first sequel is the figurative embodiment of having your soul torn apart by the Cenobites.

First thing NECA does is catch your eye with the absolutely gorgeous box art on the front cover with Pinhead inviting you to partake in the mystery of the Lament Configuration, before opening up to reveal the figure in its window box display.

NECA completely crushes it, capturing Doug Bradley’s legendary Pinhead in all of his twisted glory. Demon to some, angel to others, and a fantastic addition to your toy shelf. The head sculpt is sublime, and the figure comes with multiple points of articulation giving you the option to place Pinhead into whatever devilishly delectable pose your heart desires.

NECA’s Hellraiser Ultimate Pinhead has such sights to show you, from his tools of torture to two versions of the Lament Configuration. A static, closed version waiting for you to solve its riddle, to the fully opened puzzle box signaling the Cenobites arrival. The level of sculpted detail in Pinhead’s attire is incredible even throughout his legs. Some toy companies probably wouldn’t bother with the sculpted detail in the legs as the vinyl skirt conceals them, but NECA always does things right.

Speaking of detail, the time and consideration NECA gave to Pinhead’s weapons of torture is also nothing short of amazing. I will mention that the knife is extremely small; as it should be for proper scaling, but if you’re taking him out of his package, be wary of losing it. Attaching the weapons to his waist though is clean and easy.

Pinhead told Kirsty that tears were a waste of good suffering. Not having this Ultimate Pinhead in your collection would be a waste of good shelf space and is available for $29.99 at bigbadtoystore.com, and here’s hoping we get Ultimate figures of the other Cenobites, with a Dr. Channard at the top of my wishlist.

I give the NECA Hellraiser Ultimate Pinhead 5/5 Lament Configurations.
