Just today, Sideshow Collectibles announced that by using the code 19SW20, collectors will be eligible for $20 off select Star Wars items. And with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hitting theaters like, now, and Christmas just a few days away, the idea of any money off a Sideshow figure or statue might seem like a wonderful thing. A mitzvah. A good deed.
That said, we all do know how much a Sideshow Collectibles/Hot Toys piece is, right?

The above list of drool-worthy Star Wars figures all range between $250-$400 dollars. Sideshow Collectibles are premium figures. Hot Toys, which are typically distributed by Sideshow, are about $150-$250 less than a Sideshow-proper figure, but are still premium pieces with a mighty price tag. And that’s fine– they’re gorgeous. And huge– all of the 1:6 figures clock in at about 11-12.5 inches, depending on the starting height of the actor playing the character. I’ve seen many, many Sideshow Collectibles pieces in person. I don’t own any, because hashtag no money, but they’re simply spectacular.
But $20 off? That’s is an absolute joke.
It would have been less of an insult just to offer free shipping. I’m guessing a Sideshow figure costs what, $15-$20 to ship? At least the words ‘Free Shipping” make us feel like we’re getting a little tickle of fun. But $20 off something with a $250+ price tag?
I’ll speak for myself only, because I’m really good at that, but I don’t see how that helps anyone at all.
Now, of course, no one is expecting Sideshow to have some crazy Black Friday or Countdown to Christmas Sale. Their products cost a lot to create and produce. Sure, we all want to find that magical unicorn in the field, presenting a tray of sushi rolls, offering to wash our floors, watch our children while we nap, and cook our dinners, but I have a feeling that Sideshow won’t deem me special enough to kick me down Darkside Anakin and Darth Sideous at my desired price of $150. Yes, for both.
So, you’re hearing it from the loudest Toy Journalist on the internet, Sideshow. Love you, mean it, you’re pretty, so pretty, but you can politely take your unfortunately useless $20 off sale somewhere else.

It’s hard to imagine that $20 has ever been the difference between buying and not buying a Sideshow piece.
