MEZCO Toyz dropped images of their One:12 Collective Pennywise the Clown from IT last week, and I personally had a freakout scream moment. (Yes, that is a technical term for the feeling of overwhelming excitement that washes over you upon sight when you need a new thing). In that article about Pennywise, I made declarative statements that angered some NECA enthusiasts on the internet who did not agree with my sentiments that MEZCO’s upcoming murder clown looked better (in pictures) than the NECA version (which is a spectacular figure). Therefore, based solely on that, I decided that the One:12 Collective was perfection on a cone. But perhaps I celebrated too soon.
Because I’m not sure what I think about this new Hellboy figure.
My relationship with Hellboy is simple– I saw the two original films. Based on the new design for the upcoming film, I know some fans are unhappy with this recasting and design. For many, Ron Pearlman is definitively Hellboy, as much of a staple as Robert Englund playing Freddy Krueger. It’s a tall order to follow. And while MEZCO Toyz’s photography is just absolutely breathtaking for this new figure, I’m not sure if what I’m seeing (that I’m not in love with) is a reflection of the toy, or of the design from the movie.
Hellboy fans, help me out by giving me your thoughts in the comments. It’s a Toy Wizards call to action!
