The Classic Swordfish II Toy From ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Gets Re-Issued This July

For fans of Cowboy Bebop, you will be happy to know that Bandai Spirits is re-issuing its Soul of Popynica Swordfish II toy this July.

What with Super Robot Wars T released in March on both Switch and PlayStation 4 and featuring Cowboy Bebop for the first time, the re-issue of this classic Swordfish II toy is very much welcomed.

Originally released back in 2009, this Swordfish II toy was part of the Soul of Popynica range, which was a parallel line to the very popular Soul of Chogokin toys. In that instead of focusing on mecha, the Soul of Popynica range was based around vehicles and ships.

This re-issue looks like it is practically identical to the 2009 version, which is very good news. This is because the original toy was pretty much faultless and recreated Spike Spiegel’s signature MONO racer beautifully.

The design of the Swordfish II itself, as well as the other ships in Cowboy Bebop, was undertaken by the very talented Kimitoshi Yamane. Who also worked on other popular mecha series such as Gundam: 08th MS Teamand The Vision of Escaflowne, to name a few.

What with Cowboy Bebop celebrating its twentieth-anniversary last year, as well as its inclusion in Super Robot Wars T, it’s good to know that we have some nice toys to look forward to, with the S.H. Figuarts Spike Spiegel figure also released in April.

This Soul of Popynica Swordfish II is re-issued this July for 8,640 yen (or around $77). You can also pre-order this toy via places such as HobbyLink Japan.
